Several years ago, we started to wonder…

What would dog training look like if every dog owner had access to simple, practical resources that helped them understand their dog’s natural instincts, innate drives, and individual behavior needs?

What kinds of results could we help owners achieve if our training programs focused less on teaching “obedience”, and more on establishing healthy relationships, creating dog-smart environments, and implementing practical wellness routines that worked with each dog’s individual nature?

Nature-Driven Nurture™ by INSTINCT®

We are thrilled to announce the upcoming rollout of Nature-Driven Nurture™, the revolutionary new approach to dog parenting and canine behavioral health support that works with a dog’s natural instincts and individual behavior needs.

Rooted in ethology and behavior science, Nature-Driven Nurture™ provides dog owners with a practical roadmap for raising, caring for, and training their canine family members. The approach was developed by Instinct’s team of certified behavior consultants and board-certified veterinary behaviorists. It reflects our best practices for collaborative coaching and canine behavioral health assessment & support – refined over tens of thousands of hours of hands-on training, behavior work, and academic study – boiled down into an effective, intuitive dog parenting methodology that is as relevant to owners raising a new puppy as it is to those navigating complex behavior issues with an adult dog.

Courses. Coaching. Community. Care.

Nature-Driven Nurture™ programming will roll out to Instinct clients over a three-month span covering January through March 2022. Programs will utilize a powerful multimodal learning model that includes individualized coaching, self-paced online courses, community support, and behavioral health-focused care services. The various program elements are designed to integrate seamlessly with Instinct’s current canine behavioral health focus, collaborative coaching model, and alumni support services, and to build upon our industry-leading canine behavioral health assessment tool, launched in May 2021.

By 2023, Instinct intends to weave machine learning and AI into Nature-Driven Nurture™ program design decisions, turning the data collected via its behavioral health assessment tool into powerful knowledge that can help to more accurately assess areas of risk and create optimal training & care plans for individual dogs and families.

Better Results. Stronger Relationships. Happier Dogs.

Nature-Driven Nurture™ helps dog owners achieve lasting, positive results where traditional dog training programs fall short, thanks to the method’s multidisciplinary focus on biology, health & wellness, environment, relationship dynamics, and learning experiences. Owners who use Nature-Driven Nurture™ experience a deeper level of connection, joy, and understanding with their dogs. And their dogs are happier, more fulfilled, more confident companions.

Instinct®, Instinct Dog Behavior & Training®, and the Instinct® dog logo are US Registered Trademarks. Instinct® is in the process of filing a registered trademark application for Nature-Driven Nurture™ with the United States Patent & Trademark Office.

Short on Time? Read the Quick Version

Instinct Dog Training Inc. welcomes board certified veterinary behaviorists Dr. Emily Levine, DACVB and Dr. Chris Pachel, DACVB to leadership team as Vice Presidents of Veterinary Behavior.

-The new VPs will help with efforts to bring veterinary behavior professionals in-house at Instinct Dog Behavior & Training® franchise locations, either as franchise partners or as operators of on-site, independent vet behavior clinics.

-Bringing veterinary behaviorists and dog trainers under the same roof provides dog owners with easy access to a full range of high quality, science-based training and behavior support services for everything from puppy socialization to obedience training to help for complex behavior issues involving fear, aggression, and anxiety. The move aligns with Instinct’s mission of providing help and hope to every dog and owner through access to kind, practical dog behavior and training resources.

-As VPs of Veterinary Behavior, Dr. Levine and Dr. Pachel will also develop educational resources for Instinct franchisees and clients; provide onboarding support for new veterinary behavior partners; and help review and enforce Instinct’s set of internal standards and policies related to the care and training of dogs across all Instinct franchise locations.

New York, NY, RELEASE – Instinct Dog Training Inc., franchisor for Instinct Dog Behavior & Training® franchises, is thrilled to welcome board certified veterinary behaviorists Dr. Emily Levine, DACVB and Dr. Chris Pachel, DACVB to the company’s leadership team as Vice Presidents of Veterinary Behavior (full bios below). The exciting new appointments are part of an ongoing effort by Instinct to raise industry standards and increase collaboration between the dog training and veterinary behavior communities in an effort to make quality, science-based dog behavior resources – including veterinary behavior services – more accessible to dogs and owners across the country.

“We are beyond humbled to welcome Dr. Levine and Dr. Pachel to our team,” said Sarah Fraser and Brian Burton, Co-CEOs of Instinct Dog Training Inc. “We could not imagine two individuals better suited to help us work toward our vision of A Kinder World through Dog Training. They are thought leaders in their field, highly skilled practitioners, and most importantly, they are kind, practical team players who are passionately committed to helping improve the lives of dogs and owners.”

“It’s exciting! It’s not often we are presented with an opportunity to affect broad-based, lasting positive change within an industry we love,” said Dr. Levine, who is also co-owner of the Instinct Dog Behavior & Training Northern New Jersey (Instinct NNJ) franchise.

Dr. Pachel, an avid advocate for increasing teamwork and collaboration between veterinarians and dog trainers, added, “I believe wholeheartedly this has the potential to significantly and positively impact dogs and owners, the dog training industry, and the field of veterinary behavior.”

Veterinary behaviorists play a crucial role in helping dogs with serious, complex behavior issues involving fear, aggression, and anxiety; their specialized medical training enables them to identify and treat potential physical, physiological, or neurological issues that may be causing or contributing to a dog’s abnormal behavior – issues that cannot be addressed through dog training or behavior modification alone. Their services can truly be life-saving for many dogs; however, many dog owners are unaware that such help exists.

With the help of Dr. Levine and Dr. Pachel, Instinct wants to change that. The company is currently seeking board certified veterinary behaviorists as potential Instinct Dog Behavior & Training franchise partners, and will also be working with its franchisees to provide veterinary behaviorists an option to sublease clinic space within Instinct franchise locations.

“By putting veterinary behaviorists and trainers together under one roof, we can increase the overall quality of our training programs while also helping dog owners understand there is a full range of training and behavior help available to them and their dogs – from puppy classes and obedience lessons with a certified positive reinforcement dog trainer, to behavior modification programs with a certified dog behavior consultant, to potentially life-changing help from a veterinary behaviorist for serious and complex behavior issues,” said Fraser.

In addition to helping develop programs focused on collaborative opportunities for the veterinary community, Dr. Levine and Dr. Pachel will sit on Instinct’s Behavior Leadership Panel to help review and enforce the company’s internal standards and policies that focus on ensuring all Instinct franchises and employees adhere to the highest level of professionalism and utilize only positive, science-based training techniques. The new Vice Presidents of Veterinary Behavior will also develop educational resources for Instinct franchises, trainers, and clients, and will provide training and support for veterinarians and veterinary behaviorists getting involved with an Instinct franchise.

Dr. Levine, DACVB, graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Mississippi State University in 2000. Dr. Levine is currently the Director of Behavioral Services at the Animal Behavior Clinic of AERA and is board certified in the specialty of Animal Behavior. She has authored several papers in peer-reviewed journals and textbooks, as well as co-edited international proceedings on behavior research.

Chris Pachel, DACVB, CABC

Dr. Pachel, DACVB, received his veterinary degree from the University of MN in 2002 and worked as a general practitioner for two years in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area prior to the start of his behavior residency program. He operated a house-call behavior practice in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area until 2010 and became board certified by the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists in 2010. Dr. Pachel is owner of the Animal Behavior Clinic in Portland, OR, where he brings an approach to behavioral therapy which combines learning theory, medical training, and experience along with compassion and effective communication to create a balanced treatment plan that is tailored to the individual patient’s needs. New York, NY, RELEASE – July 1, 2018

Instinct Dog Training Inc. is delighted to officially announce the launch of its national franchise program for Instinct Dog Behavior & Training® facilities – an exciting step toward the company’s mission of providing help and hope to every dog and owner through kind, practical dog behavior and training resources.

While Instinct’s flagship location in New York City has been operating since 2009 (and has since helped thousands of dogs and owners live together peacefully and happily), the company was just approved to begin franchising at the beginning of 2018. The Instinct franchise program is built on nearly a decade of impressive yearly growth, careful strategic planning, and a relentless commitment to developing proprietary, best-in-class training and operating policies and procedures – all with the goal of bringing practical, positive training to more dogs and owners.

“It’s humbling, having this opportunity to significantly and positively impact the welfare and wellbeing of such a large number of dogs and owners,” said Sarah Fraser, Co-CEO of Instinct Dog Training Inc. “We take our vision – A Kinder World through Dog Training – very seriously, and we believe our franchise program, together with some other exciting initiatives, will help us get there.”

Kind, Practical Help for Dogs & Owners
Dog owners are seeking positive, dog-friendly training for their canine family members. According to a 2018 survey of 240 U.S. dog owners(1), nearly 80% felt that training should “absolutely” be a positive experience for their dogs. That may come as no surprise, but in an unregulated industry with no industry-wide professional or ethical standards and no requirements for licensing, certification, or education, it’s tricky for dog owners to know exactly what they’re getting when they reach out to a dog professional for help. Yikes!

Every Instinct Dog Behavior & Training franchise must adhere to a set of welfare-focused standards and policies developed and reviewed by the Instinct Dog Training Inc. Behavior Leadership team, which is comprised of Certified Dog Behavior Consultants and board certified Veterinary Behaviorists. In addition, all Instinct trainers and behavior consultants must hold specific certifications and participate in ongoing continuing education programs, so dog owners can feel confident that both they and their dog will be treated with kindness and respect.

“In an industry where dog trainers require no special license, certification, or education, we hope to offer dog owners peace of mind in knowing all Instinct training facilities require their trainers to hold certain certifications and to adhere to positive, science-based training methods,” said Brian Burton, Co-CEO of Instinct Dog Training Inc.

Instinct Dog Behavior & Training Services
Instinct franchise facilities offer dogs and owners help with everything from basic obedience and manners to complex behavior issues involving fear, aggression, and anxiety. Service options include:
– Private Lessons
– Group Classes
– Instinct’s popular positive reinforcement Training Camps
– Free Puppy Train & Play classes for pups 9-20 weeks
Puppy Raising Camps
– Free Alumni training classes
– Alumni Boarding
– And more!

Instinct Dog Behavior & Training Facilities
Instinct wants dogs and humans to feel comfortable and relaxed when they visit an Instinct facility. That’s why all Instinct franchises are safe, inclusive environments and are decorated to provide a warm, home-like feel, with wood-look floors, comfy furniture (and dog beds!), lots of artwork, and of course, treat jars and toy boxes aplenty.

Training room Trainer Admin Area Consult room Training area with couch Play yard Stacked kennels

Instinct franchise facilities are staffed 24/7, meaning Instinct Campers are never left unsupervised, and all Campers have their own safe, secure private kennels to relax in between the day’s many activities.

Franchise Locations & Partners
Instinct’s first franchise location is slated to open in Northern New Jersey in late 2018 and is owned by board certified veterinary behaviorist Dr. Emily Levine, DACVB, and behavior consultant Suze Cullinan, CDBC. Several other franchise locations are in various stages of discussion and development.

Instinct is actively seeking qualified, dedicated franchise partners in urban markets across the country to join its team and help bring its proven business model to more markets. It’s a fantastic opportunity to own a piece of the recession-resistant pet market, help dogs and owners, and be a part of something bigger while receiving some pretty amazing support services.

Desired franchise partners include:
– Veterinarians and Veterinary Behaviorists
– Certified behavior consultants and certified positive reinforcement trainers
– Investors who believe in Instinct’s vision and mission who can partner with a certified trainer or behavior consultant

Instinct is fiercely committed to finding the right franchise partners, then doing everything we can to help them thrive and succeed – because successful franchisees mean we’re helping more dogs and owners! Interested parties can reach out to us at franchise@instinctdogtraining.com to schedule a discovery call.
